SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Kristen Carlson, Christie Dawson and Laurel Abrahamson all recorded double-digit kills to pace the University of San Diego women's volleyball team (8-3) to a 3-0 (31-29, 30-22, 30-28) sweep over UC Santa Barbara (3-4) in their home opener Thursday evening in the first match of the USD Invitational at the Jenny Craig Pavilion.
Offensively for the Toreros, Carlson had match-high 20 kills to go along with 12 digs and had a .359 attack percentage. Dawson recorded her second double-double of the season as she had 17 kills and 11 digs and Abrahamson had 14 kills on the evening with an attack percentage of .357. Sophomore setter Jessica Nyrop helped direct the San Diego offense to a .275 team attack percentage as she posted 54 assists and had four kills. Kayleen Webster had a match-best 20 digs on the night.
For the Gauchos, Lauren McLaughlin had a team-best 10 kills and committed no attacking errors to post a .278 attack percentage. As a team the Gauchos had an attack percentage of .217.
The Toreros will continue play in the USD Invitational on Friday evening as they take on Ohio in a 7 p.m. non-conference match at the Jenny Craig Pavilion.
