USF Volleyball Suffers Sweep Against Sacramento State in Asics/Coca-Cola Invitational

(San Francisco) - USF volleyball ran into a Sacramento State buzz saw in its opening match of the 2007 Asics/Coca-Cola Invitational, falling in three games 30-21, 30-23, 30-14 Friday night at War Memorial Gym. The Dons (8-4) did little to slow down the Hornets (9-3), who hit at a remarkable .382 for the match.

Junior middle blocker Carly Babin recorded eight kills and three blocks (one solo), while junior middle Alix Gombos also shared the team lead with eight kills. Freshman opposite hitter Sarah Mandala added seven kills and eight digs, while senior outside hitter Brynn Maurer tallied a team-high 12 digs.

Senior outside hitter Missie Stidham hammered a match-high 17 kills on .459 hitting with 14 digs for the Hornets, while senior outside hitter Jennifer Ferguson chipped in with 12 kills and 12 digs.

San Francisco returns to action when it takes on Xavier - a 3-2 victor against No. 14 Cal Poly - at 11:00 AM on day two of the USF Asics/Coca-Cola Invitational. The Dons then tackle the Mustangs in the tournament finale at 7:00 PM.
