Lions Sweep Florida A&M

Miami, Flor. - Loyola Marymount volleyball made quick work of Florida A&M (2-6) Saturday morning, sweeping the Rattlers 3-0 (30-21, 30-19, 30-19) in under an hour and a half. The victory kept LMU (10-2) undefeated in 2006 Miami Hurricane Invitational action heading into tonight's match-up with the host Hurricanes (4:30 p.m. PST).

LMU continued its hot streak, as the Saturday morning win was the Lions' eighth straight. LMU last fell to 11th-ranked Tennessee September 2.

With the two tournament wins this weekend, LMU also extended its neutral court streak. The Lions have not dropped a match on a neutral court since 2004.

Saturday morning, LMU got an early jump, hitting .429 as a team in game one. Though the Lions cooled off slightly in hitting percentage, it was enough to outscore FAMU 90-59 on the match.

The Lions were led by junior Christianna Reneau, who finished with 20 kills and 16 digs, while hitting .436.

Fellow junior Heather Hughes added 14 kills and 13 digs. The reigning West Coast Conference Player of the Week leads the WCC in service aces, and she tallied four again this morning to boost her average.

LMU out-dug FAMU 81 to 57, with Reneau (16), Sandy Krone (16), Hughes (13), and Emily Day (12) leading the way.

Setter Ashley Dutro (42 assists) kept the Lions hitting at a .317 clip on the match.

LMU will now gear up to face the host Hurricanes Saturday night at the Knight Sports Complex. Gametracker will be available for the match at www.LMULions.com. First serve is set for approximately 4:30 p.m. PST, as the match will follow the FAMU vs. Jacksonville match-up.
