BOISE, Idaho - Two Gonzaga University volleyball players finished with double-digit kills on Saturday afternoon but it was not enough to overcome Boise State University as the host Broncos earned a 3-0 victory. Boise State earned the 30-26, 30-26, 30-28 win on the second day of the Boise State Tournament in Boise, Idaho. The visiting Bulldogs dropped their overall record to 4-9 on the season, while the Broncos improved to 6-5 on the year.
Junior Becky Jones continued to lead the Bulldogs, finishing with a team-high 15 kills. Freshman Emily Johnson followed with 11 kills and sophomore Elaina Renius added eight kills. Junior Heather Dunn passed out 38 assists as Gonzaga finished with only 49 total team kills and a .250 hitting percentage.
Boise State registered 58 kills with Jeanette Jenkins leading the way with a match-high 18 kills. Both Cameron Flunder and Arlee Tamietti added 13 kills a piece for the Broncos. Mandy Klein dished out 46 assists as Boise State ended the contest with 58 total kills and a .291 attacking percentage.
Junior Alecia Douglas and Dunn had 11 and 10 digs, respectively for Gonzaga, as the Bulldogs out-dug their opponents 47-43. Jackie Stroud led the way with a match-high 14 digs for Boise State.
Gonzaga will return to action Tuesday, Sept. 19 when it plays at Montana. Match time is slated for 6 p.m.
