Santa Clara, Calif. - Loyola Marymount kept its West Coast Conference mark perfect Thursday night with a 3-0 sweep (30-20, 30-25, 30-25) of 12th-ranked Santa Clara. With the road win, the Lions improve to 15-3 and 3-0 in WCC play, while the Broncos fall to 11-4 and 1-2 in WCC play.
Statistical double-doubles from reigning WCC Player of the Month Heather Hughes (14 kills, 10 digs) and Ashley Dutro (39 assists, 11 digs) led the Lions to the three-game sweep. LMU has now won 13 of its last 14 matches, including tonight's win over the 12th-ranked Broncos, who advanced to the NCAA Final Four last season.
The Lions held the advantage just about all of games one and two, holding Santa Clara to just .077 and .111 hitting percentages.
Both teams hit their best in game three, but LMU's momentum helped the Lions close out the sweep.
Christianna Reneau added 13 kills and six digs. Among WCC leaders in hitting percentage, freshman Megan Nash continued her hot-hitting with her .353 clip Thursday night. She finished with eight kills and nine digs. Senior Sandy Krone hit .333 with seven kills and six digs.
The tough week of WCC play continues for the Lions Saturday. LMU will take on 22nd-ranked San Diego Saturday at 1:00 p.m. The match will be televised on Fox Sports Net West live from Jenny Craig Pavilion. Lion fans are asked to wear crimson LMU gear to support the team on the road.
