SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Laurel Abrahamson, Christie Dawson and Kristen Carlson all recorded double-digit kills to pace the 22nd-ranked University of San Diego women's volleyball team to a 3-1 win over No. 23 Pepperdine University in a West Coast Conference match Thursday evening at the Jenny Craig Pavilion.
With the 30-28, 30-18, 27-30, 30-27 win, the Toreros improve to 13-4 overall, move to 3-0 in the WCC and have won three consecutive matches to remain in a tie for first place in the WCC. With the loss, the Waves fall to 6-7 overall and 2-1 in the WCC.
Carlson recorded her 10th double-double of the season as she had a match-best 26 kills, tied for a match-best 19 digs and posted a match-best .364 attacking percentage. Abrahamson tallied the second most kills in the match with 15 while adding four blocks on the evening and had an attacking percentage of .303. Dawson had 12 kills and four blocks on the evening and sophomore setter Jessica Nyrop had her fourth consecutive match with at least 60 assists as she recorded 61 assists to help direct the USD offense to a .231 team attacking percentage.
For the Waves, four players recorded double-digit kills with Kayla Walker leading the way with her 14 kills on the evening. As a team, the Waves were held to a .180 team attacking percentage.
The Toreros will return to action on Saturday, as they will battle the Loyola Marymount Lions for sole possession of first place in the WCC in a 1 p.m. match. The WCC showdown will be televised live on Fox Sports West in the San Diego and Los Angeles areas.
