Volleyball Drops Heartbreaker to Gonzaga

Moraga, CA - The Saint Mary's volleyball team got up 2-1, but couldn't put Gonzaga away, as the Bulldogs won the final two games and left The Pavilion with a 3-2 victory on Saturday afternoon.

The Gaels made quick work of the Bulldogs in the first game, winning 30-17, but lost Game 2 30-25. Saint Mary's won the third game 30-28, but then fell 31-29 and 15-12 to close out the day.

With the loss, Saint Mary's falls to 9-9 on the season and 4-3 in West Coast Conference play. Gonzaga improved to 1-6 in WCC play and 6-16 overall.

Saint Mary's was led offensively by Christina Kirk, who recorded a career-high 27 kills and added 12 digs and four blocks.

Mandy Bible set the pace offensively with 65 assists, 11 digs and eight blocks. Cassandra Kolkka added 13 kills and 20 digs and Megan Burton had 11 kills and five blocks.

Taylor Groess added 12 kills, Nikki Gonzalez had a career-high 29 digs and Brittany Barker had nine blocks.

The Gaels return to action on Thursday, October 26 when they travel to San Diego to face the Toreros at 7:05 p.m.
