SPOKANE, Wash. - The Gonzaga University women's volleyball team dropped its second-straight West Coast Conference match as the Bulldogs were outplayed by Santa Clara University on Thursday evening. The Broncos, who improved to 15-9 overall and 7-1 in the WCC, swept the match in three games, 32-30, 30-23, 30-26.
With the loss, the Bulldogs now hold a 15-9 overall record and a 3-5 mark in conference.
Gonzaga, who was held to 34 kills in the match, was led by sophomore Michelle Boevers and junior Elaina Renius with 12 and eight kills, respectively. Senior Heather Dunn dished out a season-low 27 assists for the Bulldogs as GU connected for a .215 attacking percentage.
Santa Clara's offense was quite the opposite of Gonzaga's as the Broncos closed out the match with 67 kills and a .268 hitting clip. Krista Kelley and Brittany Lowe led the way for Santa Clara. Kelley finished with a match-high 26 kills, while Lowe added 21.
The Broncos held the 36-29 advantage in digs, while the Bulldogs held the slight 10-7 edge in blocks. Dunn finished with a team-high nine digs for Gonzaga and Renius had a match-high five blocks.
Gonzaga returns to action Saturday, Oct. 27 when it hosts WCC opponent Saint Mary's College at the Martin Centre. Match time is set for 9 p.m.
