Volleyball Drops Heartbreaker to No. 21 Santa Clara

Santa Clara, CA - Saint Mary's won the first two games against No. 21 Santa Clara on Saturday afternoon, but just like the Gaels did earlier this season, the Broncos rallied to win the next three and take the match 3-2 at the Leavey Center.

With the loss the Gaels fall to 4-5 in West Coast Conference play and 9-11 overall. Santa Clara improved to 6-3 in conference play and 16-5 overall.

As a team the Gaels posted a season-high 25.5 blocks, as sophomore Brittany Barker recorded a career-high 15 blocks. Mandy Bible and Megan Burton each recorded nine blocks, Christina Kirk had eight blocks and Cassandra Kolkka added six blocks.

Offensively the Gaels were led by Missie Stidham, who recorded 21 kills and added 20 digs. Christina Kirk had 17 kills and Cassandra Kolkka had 16 kills and eight assists.

Saint Mary's started the match off strong, winning the first two games with a .444 hitting percentage in the first game and a .345 hitting percentage in the second.

The Gaels will return to action on Saturday, November 4 when they travel to San Francisco to take on the Dons at 7:05 p.m.
