San Francisco, CA- The Saint Mary's women's volleyball team suffered a 3-0 loss to West Coast Conference rival San Francisco Saturday night from War Memorial Gym. Senior Christina Kirk led the Gaels with 13 kills. After the night, the Gaels move to 9-12 overall and 4-6 in WCC play.
The Gaels fell to the Dons by the scores of 30-24, 30-21 and 30-20. SMC played USF tough in game one as there were nine lead changes in the set. The Dons edged the Gaels in hitting percentage with a .275-.235 advantage in the game.
Overall USF out-hit SMC .308 to .158 on the night. In addition to leading hitter Kirk's 13 kills, the senior added four digs and four block assists.
Senior setter Mandy Bible led all players with 32 assists and rounded out another double-double with 10 digs while adding five block assists and three kills.
In addition to Bible and Kirk at the net, sophomore Brittany Barker and Taylor Groess added five block assists and four block assists respectively. As a team the Gaels were more active at the net with a 24-15 blocking advantage.
Saint Mary's Nikki Gonzalez led all players with 17 digs on the night. Offensively the Dons sported three players in double-digits for kills. Carly Babin tallied a team-high 14 followed by 13 from Alex Gombos. Kristin Hasselberg rounded out USF hitters with 11.
Saint Mary's will return to WCC action on Thursday, November 9 against Pepperdine. Game time is slated for 7:05 p.m. from McKeon Pavilion.
