Moraga, Calif. - Loyola Marymount volleyball suffered a tough road setback Saturday, falling 3-0 (31-33, 16-30, 26-30) at Saint Mary's (10-13, 5-7 WCC). The Lions (19-11, 5-8 WCC) will return to the Los Angeles area for their final West Coast Conference match-up of 2006 Thursday at Pepperdine.
Junior Christianna Reneau had 16 kills and five digs Saturday, but it was not enough to carry the Lions.
LMU hit .267 as a team in game one, but cooled off from there, falling to .111 and .214 in the final two frames.
The teams were even in digs at 45 each, but Saint Mary's held off the LMU attack with a 13.5 - 4.0 blocking advantage.
Saint Mary's celebrated Senior Day, but it was junior Missie Stidham who led the way with 18 kills, 12 digs, and six service aces.
LMU senior Sandy Krone added seven kills and six digs, while hitting at a .438 clip.
San Diego secured the 2006 WCC Championship Saturday with a win over Portland. With one WCC match to play, the Lions will battle for ground in the final league standings Thursday at Pepperdine.
