Volleyball Rallies Late, But Comeback Falls Short

Portland, OR - The Saint Mary's volleyball team dropped the first two games to Portland on Saturday afternoon, but came back to win the next two, forcing a deciding Game 5. In the fifth game, the Gaels fell 17-15 to the Pilots and lost the match 3-2 in their final match of the season in Portland, OR.

The Gaels fell behind 30-26, 30-28, before winning the next two games 30-28, 30-24 forcing the fifth game. With the loss the Gaels finish the regular season with an 11-14 overall record and a 6-8 West Coast Conference mark. Portland finished the season with a 9-18 overall record and a 2-12 conference record.

Offensively the Gaels were led by Missie Stidham, who recorded a match-high 24 kills and added 11 digs.

Senior setter Mandy Bible finished her career with a solid match, recording 56 assists, 12 digs and four kills. Senior Cassandra Kolkka had 11 kills, 16 digs and four aces and senior Christina Kirk recorded nine kills and seven blocks.

Sophomore Megan Burton recorded 11 kills and seven blocks and sophomore Taylor Groess had 11 kills and two blocks. Freshman Alita Fisher recorded 23 digs as libero.

Missie Stidham finished the season as the team's leader in kills, averaging 3.69 per game and also averaged 2.74 digs per game. Christina Kirk ended averaging 3.40 kills per game and 1.16 blocks per game. Mandy Bible averaged 11.57 assists, 2.32 digs and 1.16 blocks per game.
