Los Angeles, Calif. - Loyola Marymount volleyball will receive a boost for the 2006 season, as setter Ashley Dutro will join the Lions as a transfer in the fall. Dutro, who will begin her LMU career as a junior, was the starting setter for a UC Santa Barbara team that finished 21-9 in 2005.
"In Ashley, we're getting a two-year veteran who has experience playing at a high level of Division I volleyball," LMU Head Coach Steve Stratos said. "She has been very successful and has done a great deal of winning as a starter on a championship team."
As the Gauchos' starting setter, Dutro ranked fourth in the Big West Conference with 12.00 assists per game in 2005.
In her rookie season, she was a Big West All-Freshman selection and was named tournament MVP at the Golden Bear Invitational, where she led UCSB to 3-0 wins over Texas A&M and Cal. She finished her freshman season with five statistical double-doubles.
Dutro hails from Sunnyvale, Calif. and was the starting setter for three straight CIF State Championship teams at Saint Francis High School.
"Apart from her experience as a setter, Ashley will bring her aggressive and tenacious nature to our program this fall," Stratos said. "She is a true competitor."
Dutro and the Lions will open the 2006 season on the road at an Arizona State tournament August 25-26.
