Volleyball Announces 2005 Award Winners

SPOKANE, Wash. - Gonzaga University head volleyball coach Kip Yoshimura has announced his 2005 Volleyball Award winners. The Bulldogs finished the season 10-21 to post double figure wins for the first time in nine seasons. Along the way Gonzaga also won its first in-season tournament since the 2001 season and knocked off a ranked opponent for the first time since 1993. Winning honors for the Zags were setter Heather Dunn, right-side hitter Lacey Bell, libero Jessica Herrera and defensive specialist Megan McGovern.

Dunn earned Team MVP honors for the Bulldogs after serving as setter for all 31 matches posting 10 double-doubles. She moved into 7th place on the career list for assists and finished the year with 1,183 assists.

Bell and Herrera both earned the Team Leadership Award as they were the only upperclassman on last year's squad. Herrera ended the season with 391 digs to land 8th on the single-season digs list. She also finished her career ranking 9th on the career digs chart. Bell was a three-year starter for the Bulldogs at right-side hitter. She finished the 2005 season with 269 kills and 228 digs to rank fourth on the team in both categories. Bell also had five double-doubles on the season.

McGovern was won the team Most Inspirational award despite appearing in only two matches all season. She was a constant presence on the Bulldogs bench lifting her teammates during matches and practices.
