Taylor Groess Heads To Argentina To Play For USA Select Team

May 22, 2007

Moraga, CA - Saint Mary's volleyball player Taylor Groess was selected by Bring It Promotions, under sanction by the USA Volleyball Federation, to travel to Argentina to spar with the ARG National Team and Junior National Team prior to their summer competition schedule.

It is the second consecutive summer season that Saint Mary's has been represented at the games. Seniors Mandy Bible and Christina Kirk played for the USA Select "A" Team, while sophomore Nikki Gonzalez participated for the USA Select "All-Frosh Team" last year.

The team arrived in Buenos Aires and began training on May 21. The team will practice and play matches until June 1.

"This is the eighth year that USA Volleyball has recognized a trip of this nature organized and managed by Bring It Promotions (BIP)," Tom Pingel, USA Volleyball said. "The experience gained by the athletes and coaches simply can not be obtained through domestic play. The USAV/BIP partnership has worked well in that USA recommends coaches and athletes for invitation and Bring It provides post-trip reports on everyone on the trip. I'm confident that the 2007 experience will equal or surpass those of past years."

Groess played in all 25 games this past season as a sophomore for the Gaels. Groess recorded 197 kills for a 2.32 kills per game average. The opposite started 12 matches and tallied 11 service aces on the year.
