USF Volleyball Adds Jackie Bernardin to Coaching Staff

USF head volleyball coach Jeff Nelson announced the hiring of Jackie Bernardin as assistant volleyball coach. Bernardin was three-time WCC Defensive Player of the Year at the University of San Diego. In 2004 and 2005, she served as assistant and head coach of the USD volleyball summer camps.

Commenting on the appointment, head volleyball coach Jeff Nelson, said, "We were very fortunate to have some very qualified and outstanding candidates for this position, and I am extremely happy to have Jackie on our side of the court! One of the things that impressed me the most about Jackie is her tremendous energy and work ethic. It will be exciting to see her successfully leverage her playing skills as a coach."

Bernardin arrives on campus after two years serving as assistant to the head coach of USD's volleyball summer camps where she worked with girls ages 10 - 18. This past spring, she was coordinator of USD's summer camps, developing, promoting and organizing the youth programs.

Before transferring to USD, Bernardin played volleyball at the University of Texas where she saw NCAA tourney experience. At USD, Bernardin earned WCC honorable mention for 2004. She was named the WCC Defensive Player of the Year for 2003, 2004 and 2005. Team captain in 2005, Bernardin earned WCC first team honors the same year. She holds USD's all-time dig record. A USD 2006 graduate, she majored in communications studies with a minor in leadership.

New assistant coach Bernardin said, "I am very excited to be joining USF's volleyball program and look forward to working with coach Nelson and the other members of his staff."

"Jackie arrives on the Hilltop on June 18 and will be coaching at all three of our summer volleyball camps. She will add greatly to our staff and be an immediate asset to the players on our team," concluded coach Nelson.
