SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Santa Clara volleyball head coach Jon Wallace announced Tuesday the promotion of volunteer assistant coach Will Yuen to full-time assistant coach. Yuen will assume his new position immediately, replacing Matt Lyles, who will remain with the coaching staff on a volunteer basis.
"I am very pleased to join the Bronco volleyball coaching staff full-time," said Yuen. "I have thoroughly enjoyed coaching at Santa Clara for the past two years, and I look forward to continuing to help the Broncos achieve future success."
Yuen, a 2000 graduate of San Jose State, has spent the past two seasons as a member of the Bronco coaching staff in a volunteer capacity, running the team's VolleyData system and assisting in the breakdown of film on the team's performance and scouting of opponents. In his first season on the Mission Campus in 2005, he helped guide the Broncos to their first-ever Final Four appearance.
"Will has brought a ton of energy to his position and his enthusiasm for Santa Clara volleyball has been a welcome addition to our program," said Wallace. "We are excited to have Will join us full-time and look forward to preparing for the upcoming 2007 season."
Yuen comes to the Broncos from Archbishop Mitty High School in Sunnyvale, where since 2000 he has served the prestigious Monarchs volleyball program as head coach of the girls' junior varsity team. Upon the end of the junior varsity season, Yuen served the girls' varsity team as an assistant coach during their three CIF State Championship title runs.
Since January 2004, Yuen has also held the position of head coach of the Mitty boys' volleyball team, guiding the Monarchs to their first Central Coast Section playoff appearance in four seasons.
On the club level, Yuen has coached since 1997, including the last eight seasons with the Vision Volleyball Club. As head coach of Vision's 15 Gold team in 2004, he led the squad to a fifth-place finish at the Junior Olympics in Houston.
