WCC Women's Volleyball Starts 2012 Season on High Note

QUICK HITS

  • Santa Clara won four straight matches in Southern Illinoisto start off the season with a 4-0 run. The Broncos sweptSaint Louis and Western Illinois and defeated Montana Stateand host SIUE by scores of 3-2 and 3-1, respectively.

  • BYU leads the conference in hitting percentage, assistsand kills after stringing together three impressive wins atthe Rice Invitational. The Cougars swept all of their opponentsover the weekend and were led by WCC Player ofthe Week Jennifer Hamson, who was also named the RiceInvitational MVP after leading the tournament in points perset (5.50), kills per set (4.89) and hitting percentage (.528).

  • San Francisco finished second at the UniWyo Invitational,as the Dons went 3-1 over the weekend, blanking theirlast two opponents Seattle and Presbyterian. For theirefforts, sophomore Valentina Zaloznik and senior JocelynLevig were named to the All-Tournament Team.

  • Pepperdine tallied its first win over a ranked opponentthis season with a 3-0 victory over then-No. 7 Illinois at theDayton Flyer Classic last Saturday. The Waves were led bysophomore Samantha Cash's 14 kills.

  • Non-conference play continues with multiple matches onFriday and Saturday of this week, highlighted by a matchupbetween San Diego and Long Beach State. San Diego iscurrently ranked No. 20 in the AVCA poll while Long BeachState continues to receive votes.
