LOS ANGELES - Loyola Marymount volleyball's Christianna Reneau and Heather Hughes were named to the Asics Tournament's All-Tournament Team following Saturday's invitational conclusion between Oregon State and host Pacific. The two were selected for their play over the two tournament matches and represented LMU among the all-tournament selections, which included six total players and an MVP.
Against Pacific and Oregon State, Reneau averaged an impressive 5.00 digs per game with 45 total over the nine games played. She added 27 kills, four service aces, and three block assists. Reneau tallied a career-high 33 digs Friday night against the Beavers.
While Reneau was busy on the defensive end, Hughes was racking up kills, averaging 5.44 per game in the two matches. The national leader in kills per game, Hughes finished with 49 total. She added 19 digs, two block assists, and one ace. It was Hughes' fourth all-tournament selection in four weekends.
The Lions were named tournament runners-up after going 1-1 over the two matches. The host Tigers took home the title after topping Oregon State in the Saturday night match.
Hughes and teammate Emily Day also hit the newsstands this week in the October issue of Volleyball Magazine. The pair is featured for its summer run in the AVP Long Beach Open, where Hughes and Day became the lowest-seeded team ever to advance to the main draw. There, they faced 2004 Olympic gold medalists Kerri Walsh and Misty May-Treanor in the first round.
LMU will use the week off to rest up for the West Coast Conference season. The Lions will travel to Cal State Fullerton for a mid-week match on Tuesday, September 25, before opening league play Saturday, September 29 at rival Pepperdine. Match time for both events is 7:00 p.m.
