WCC Volleyball Begins Conference Play on Thursday

SAN BRUNO, Calif. --- West Coast Conference women's volleyball will start conference play this week on Thursday, September 22. Four matches will take place that evening, while four more are scheduled for Saturday.


  • Seven of nine WCC teams finished non-conference playabove .500. However, Portland and Santa Clara, who finishedjust short of that, closed out the non-conferenceseason with two consecutive wins.

  • San Diego and Pepperdine still remain ranked in the AVCATop 25 Coaches Poll at No. 16 and 19, respectively. TheToreros went undefeated in non-conference play (13-0,the best start in program history). Pepperdine is currently6-5 after a tough non-conference schedule.

  • BYU's 10-match win streak was broken by a 3-1 loss to CalState Fullerton on the road. However, the Cougars cameback to win the following day at Cal State Northridge, 3-1,behind Jennifer Hamson's second double-double of theweekend. Hamson threw down 16 kills and 13 digs againstCSUN and still leads the conference in kills with 202 thisseason.

  • After starting out the season with three losses, the SanFrancisco Dons have come back to put together eight winsover 10 matches to bring their non-conference record to8-5. The Dons have recently swept four of their last fiveopponents, including Cal Poly, UNLV and Fresno State.

  • Conference play begins this Thursday at 6:00 PM PT,featured by a showdown between Saint Mary's and BYU,televised on BYUtv. Check out the upcoming schedule for allWCC matches scheduled for Thursday and Saturday.
