SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of San Diego women's volleyball team has moved up one spot to No. 14 in the latest CSTV/AVCA top-25 poll, which marks the seventh consecutive week USD has appeared in the to-25 polls.
San Diego put together another undefeated week as they chalked up wins over the University of New Mexico, 3-1, then began their West Coast Conference title defense with a 3-0 win over the University of San Francisco this past Saturday. USD has now run their winning streak to four. In Monday's match against New Mexico, Sophomore Torey Ellick recorded a career-high 17 kills on 24 attempts to post a team-best .625 attack percentage. Laurel Abrahamson recorded 13 kills on 20 attempts, while only committing one attack error to post a .600 attack percentage. Ali Troost recorded 11 kills and Jessica Andersen recorded 10 kills to give her back-to-back matches with double-digit kills. Andrea Csaszi recorded a match-best 22 digs in the win. In Saturday's win, Abrahamson led all players with 12 kills on 16 attempts, while only committing one attack error to post a match-best .688 attack percentage. Amy DeGroot was the second USD player in double-digit kills as she racked up 10. Freshman right side Ali Troost looked impressive in her WCC debut as she recorded nine kills and posted an attack percentage of .294. Csaszi had a match-best 12 digs and Kelsi Myers had 21 assists and Jessica Nyrop added in 23 more to help direct USD to a .299 team attack percentage.
The 14th-ranked Toreros will return to action on Thursday as they welcome Santa Clara University to town for a WCC match to be aired live on ESPNU at 8 p.m. inside the friendly confines of the Jenny Craig Pavilion.
