Oct. 2, 2006

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of San Diego women's volleyball team (12-4, 2-0 WCC) has moved up three spots in the latest CSTV/AVCA top-25 poll to No. 22 after posting a perfect 2-0 record this past week to open West Coast Conference play.

The Toreros rung up 3-1 wins over both the University of San Francisco and Saint Mary's College. On Thursday, the Toreros dropped the first game to the Dons, then came roaring back to claim the next three to take down USF in four games. In that match, this week's West Coast Conference Player of the Week Kristen Carlson recorded a 20-20 day as she had 23 kills and 24 digs, both match-bests. On Saturday, the Toreros again dropped the first game, then cruised their way to three straight wins over the Gaels. In the match, Carlson, Christie Dawson, Laurel Abrahamson and Jessica Andersen all recorded double-digit kills to help lead USD to victory.

The 22nd-ranked Toreros will return to the court on Thursday as they Host No. 23 Pepperdine University in a 7 p.m. match at the Jenny Craig Pavilion. The Toreros will then host Loyola Marymount University on Saturday in a 1 p.m. match that will be televised on Fox Sports Net West.
