SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The women's volleyball match between the 14th-ranked University of San Diego and Santa Clara University this Thursday at USD's Jenny Craig Pavilion will be televised live on ESPNU and the start time of the match is at 8 p.m. This will be USD's first televised match of the season.
The Toreros are entering the match with an overall record of 11-4, and a 1-0 record in West Coast Conference action. Led by the WCC Player of the Week Laurel Abrahamson, the Toreros are currently riding a four-match winning streak and are in the midst of defending the WCC crown. Abrahamson has 215 kills on the season and is leading the WCC in hitting percentage at .401. Abrahamson also leads the team in blocks with 65. Amy DeGroot also is an offensive weapon for the Toreros as she has a team-leading 233 kills (4.16 kpg) and also has 153 digs, second best on the team behind sophomore libero Andrea Csaszi's 275.
Santa Clara enters the week with an overall record of 10-7 and a 2-0 mark in the WCC after picking up a pair of wins over Gonzaga and Portland this past week. SCU and USD have met on 44 occasions with the Broncos holding a 28-16 edge. Santa Clara is led offensively by junior outside hitter Brittany Lowe, who has 206 kills and is hitting for a .255 clip. The floor leader for the Broncos is senior setter Crystal Matich, who has a team-leading 748 assists to help direct the team to a .255 attack percentage. The Broncos are under the direction of eighth-year head coach Jon Wallace. During his tenure in Santa Clara, Wallace has posted an overall record of 186-73.
