San Bruno, Calif. - Loyola Marymount volleyball's Heather Hughes has been named the West Coast Conference Player of the Month, the conference announced Wednesday. Hughes led the Lions to a 12-2 overall record and 2-0 start to conference play during September.
Hughes recorded 218 kills, 164 digs, 56 assists and 38 service aces during the month, for averages of 4.45 kills, 3.35 digs, 1.14 assists and .78 aces per game. Her service ace average ranked her as high as sixth in the nation during September.
The Fallbrook, Calif. native currently leads the WCC in statistical double-doubles, posting 11 in LMU's 17 matches. Currently ranked in the top six in the conference in both kills and digs, Hughes was a WCC Player of the Week selection, the LMU Four Points Sheraton-LAX Classic MVP and the Miami Hurricane Invitational MVP during September.
Hughes and the Lions have a huge week in WCC play this week, playing at 12th-ranked Santa Clara Thursday and 22nd-ranked San Diego Saturday. Saturday's 1:00 p.m. match will be televised live on Fox Sports Net West.
