SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Senior middle hitter Laurel Abrahamson was tabbed as the West Coast Conference Player of the Month for volleyball, the conference office announced Thursday afternoon.
Tabbed Player of the Week three out of the last four weeks, Abrahamson has been a key player in San Diego's steady climb up the national polls to No. 14. Abrahamson posted a .370 hitting percentage during September, leading the Toreros to a 9-3 record for the month. She also averaged 3.72 kills per game and tallied a career-high 25 kills in San Diego's victory over Oklahoma on September 9th. In San Diego's WCC opening victory over San Francisco, Abrahamson posted an impressive match-best .688 attack percentage with 12 kills on 16 attempts. Abrahamson also ranked fifth in the league with 1.17 blocks per game and was the only player in the WCC to be ranked in the top 10 in four different statistical categories for the month.
Abrahamson and the Toreros will return to action this evening with a 8 p.m. nationally televised ESPNU match against Santa Clara University at the Jenny Craig Pavilion.
