San Bruno, CA - For the second time in three weeks, WCC women's volleyball will be featured live on TV. This Saturday's matchup between Loyola Marymount and San Diego is set to air at 1:00 PM on Fox Sports Net West.
Although the Lions lead the all-time series 36-15, the 22nd-ranked Toreros have won six of the teams' last 10 meetings, including three of the past four. After San Diego's win over No. 23 Pepperdine and LMU's win over No. 12 Santa Clara on Thursday, Saturday's game matches the only teams still undefeated in West Coast Conference play. The winner of the matchup will take sole possession of first place in the WCC.
Junior opposite Heather Hughes has paved the way for LMU so far, earning two tournament MVP awards, the WCC Player of the Week award for September 19, and the WCC Player of the Month award for September. Hughes is eighth in the nation and first in the WCC with 0.69 service aces per game, and has the most double-doubles in the conference with 12.
Senior outside hitter Kristen Carlson has led the Toreros through the first six weeks of the season. Carlson is the reigning WCC Player of the Week after averaging six kills and 4.5 digs per game last week. Putting away an average of five kills per game, Carlson is the league's top hitter and ranks in the top 15 in the nation in kills per game.
Olympic volleyball silver medalist Mike Dodd and former Lakers' radio announcer Paul Sunderland will be on the call for Saturday's match at the Jenny Craig Pavilion in San Diego.
