SAN BRUNO, Calif. --- The West Coast Conference has named its Women's Volleyball Player of the Week for October 7, 2013.
WEST COAST CONFERENCE VOLLEYBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK: SAVANNAH BLINN, GONZAGA, REDSHIRT SOPHOMORE, OUTSIDE HITTER
Gonzaga outside hitter Savannah Blinn was the catalyst for arguably the best West Coast Conference road trip for the Gonzaga volleyball program in over a decade. With two victories over San Francisco and Santa Clara, GU won back-to-back WCC road matches for the first time under Coach Dave Gantt.
Blinn added 43 kills with just 10 errors on 100 attacks for a .330 percentage. Blinn was the model of consistency with 22 kills against USF and 21 over SCU. She also recorded four digs in each match. Against the Dons, Blinn notched a service ace and was involved in four blocks agains the Broncos.
The historic weekend for Blinn and the Zags began Thursday with a 3-2 come from behind victory at San Francisco (GU trailed 0-2 before rallying) for the WCC Game of the Week on TheW.tv. Blinn led all players with her 22 kills and the win marks the first over USF since 2009 (and the first at USF since 2007). Saturday, her 21 kills led all players as well. It was the first GU win against and at SCU since 2009.
With three wins in conference play already, GU tied its output from 2012 and 2011 combined.
