San Diego's Rachel Alvey Named WCC Volleyball Player of the Week

SAN BRUNO, Calif. --- The West Coast Conference has named its Women's Volleyball Player of the Week for October 8, 2012.

WCC PLAYER OF THE WEEK: RACHEL ALVEY, SAN DIEGO, JUNIOR, SETTER
Junior setter Rachel Alvey helped lead the University of San Diego to a pair of West Coast Conference wins, as USD downed Saint Mary's on ESPNU, 3-1, and followed that up with a 3-1 defeat over No. 23 Pepperdine on Saturday. Alvey averaged an impressive 13.75 assists-per-set en route to helping steer the San Diego offense to a team attack percentage of .213. Alvey recorded a total of 110 assists, 50 against SMC and a season-high of 60 in the win against nationally-ranked Pepperdine. Alvey began the week with a 50-assist and 17-dig performance against the Gaels for a double-double, and she had a near-second double-double with 60 assists and nine digs against Pepperdine. With the two wins, USD remains in sole possession of first place and the only undefeated team in WCC play.
