Pepperdine's Lilla Frederick Earns Waves' Fourth WCC Player of the Week Honor

Oct. 17, 2011

SAN BRUNO, Calif. --- The West Coast Conference has announced its women's volleyball Player of the Week award-winner for October 17, 2011.

LILLA FREDERICK, PEPPERDINE, SENIOR, OUTSIDE HITTER
Outside Lilla Frederick became Pepperdine's 16th member of the 1,000 kills club with her 13th and final kill of the match versus San Francisco on Oct. 15, 2011. The senior opened the week with one of the best performances of her career with 19 kills, 10 digs and seven blocks to lead the Waves to a 3-1 win over Santa Clara. Frederick (Huntington Beach, Calif./Cornelia Connelly HS) set a career-high with her seven rejections at the net, while her 19 kills were a season best, and just one put away shy of tying her career best tally of 20.Perhaps even more impressive was Frederick's efficiency on the attack. The senior took 30 swings and committed just two errors to raise her career-high single match hitting percentage to .567. On top of that, she managed to pick up 10 digs for her team-best 12th double-double of the season.

She followed that up with a team-best 13 kills against the Dons to help lift her team to another conference win and improve to 7-0 in league play. Overall, the #19-ranked Pepperdine is 13-5.

The Waves had taken a solid 2-0 lead against USF, before the Dons were able to rebound with a win in the third set to avoid the sweep. They rode the momentum to build a 21-19 lead late in the fourth frame, but pieced together a 5-1 run to take back control of the match. Frederick put the exclamation point on the end of a long rally with a kill to clinch the 25-22 win for the Waves.

She added another 10 digs - her 13th double-double of the season - to bring her career tally to 982. With a season average of 3.09 digs/set the senior is also on pace to reach the 1,000 digs milestone within the next 2-3 matches. The feat would make her just the fourth student-athlete in Pepperdine history to reach the 1,000 milestone in both kills and digs.
