A win tonight is crucial for both teams as the Dons and the Pilots sit in sixth and seventh place in the conference standings, respectively. USF collected the 300th victory in program history with a sweep of Gonzaga Thursday night. A win puts the Dons closer to an NCAA Tournament berth, while the Pilots look to turn their season around with a victory on Saturday.
Two of the top defensive players in the conference will be on display Saturday evening in USF junior outside hitter Brynn Maurer and Portland senior libero Murphy McClenahan. Maurer became the Dons' all-time digs leader versus Gonzaga Thursday and now has 1,243 career digs. McClenahan ranks third in Pilot history with 1,538 career digs.
The match will be the 44th meeting between the two schools, with the Dons holding a slim 23-20 overall edge. San Francisco swept the season series last year, earning two 3-0 victories. The Pilots last defeated the Dons in 2002 in a 3-1 match at the Chiles Center.
