MALIBU, Calif. - The Pepperdine women's volleyball team resumes West Coast Conference (WCC) play this weekend as it travels to the Pacific Northwest to face the Portland Pilots and the Gonzaga Bulldogs. Although the Waves are a combined 58-5 all-time against the two squads, the team can ill afford to look past the two last-place teams in the conference.
Pepperdine (8-10, 4-3 WCC) is currently in a four-way tie for second place in the WCC, with Santa Clara, Saint Mary's and Loyola Marymount, as each team posted a 4-3 league record during the first round of action. The Waves swept both Portland and Gonzaga in the team's first meeting of the season at Firestone Fieldhouse.
Unlike its success at home, Pepperdine has found the road less than hospitable this season, going 0-7 on opponent's home courts. Similar to the Waves' 12-0 games record in conference play at home this season, Pepperdine is just 5-21 in games on the road and have been swept in each of its last four heading into Thursday's action.
The Waves must win six of the final nine matches this season to be eligible for the NCAA Championship Tournament in December. Pepperdine has four home matches remaining, starting next Thursday against Santa Clara. The match against the Broncos will be televised by College Sports Television as part of the station's Sunday Night Spikes.
