Oct. 30, 2012
SAN BRUNO, Calif. --- The West Coast Conference has named its Women's Volleyball Player of the Week for October 30, 2012.
WCC PLAYER OF THE WEEK: JAZMINE OROZCO, PEPPERDINE, JUNIOR, OUTSIDE HITTER
Junior Jazmine Orozco set a new career record in the Pepperdine women's volleyball team's lone match last week versus Loyola Marymount. The outside hitter pounded home a personal-best 27 kills to lift the Waves to the five-set victory.
Orozco had already surpassed her previous single match record of 21 kills by the fourth set, when her total stood at 23. Not only was the kill total a personal record, but the mark currently stands as the most kills in a single match by any student-athlete in the West Coast Conference in 2012. Gonzaga's Savannah Blinn ranks second, having registered 26 kills against Florida Atlantic earlier in the season.
Orozco's well-rounded effort against the Lions also included 14 digs, four blocks and one ace for a total of 30.5 points - also a new career high. The junior has now achieved the kills-digs double-double 12 times this season, a team-best for the No. 24 ranked Waves.
