Pepperdine Moves Up to No. 14 in AVCA Coaches Poll After Two More WCC Victories

SAN BRUNO, Calif. --- Three weeks remain in conference play with matchesplayed on Thursdays and Saturdays. Four of the remainingmatches will be televised nationally with two of themcoming this week, both at BYU (BYU vs LMU/BYU vs USF)and aired on BYUtv.


  • Pepperdine moved up to No. 14 in the AVCA coaches pollafter extending its nine-match win streak to 11 with winsover WCC Northwest opponents Gonzaga and Pepperdine.The Waves swept both teams to improve their record to11-0 in conference play and 17-5 overall.

  • LMU is currently on a three-match win streak aftersweeping Portland and defeating visiting Gonzaga in fivesets. The Lions were led by WCC Player of the Week BetsiMetter, a libero who collected 56 digs over the course ofthe two matches and now leads the conference in digs.She also recorded a solid service record, serving up sevenaces at a rate of .88 per set.

  • Saint Mary's and San Diego competed in a tough matchon ESPNU last Wednesday with the Gaels winning in fivesets. With the 25-17, 25-27, 22-25, 25-21, 10-15 win, theGaels improve to 11-12 overall and 5-6 in conference play,while the Toreros fall to 22-3 overall, 7-3 in the WCC.

  • In conference matches alone, Pepperdine leads the WCCin hitting percentage (.282), assists (576), blocks (124), andkills (618). San Francisco leads the conference in digs (654).
