SAN BRUNO, Calif. --- The West Coast Conference has named its Women's Volleyball Player of the Week for November 4, 2013.
WEST COAST CONFERENCE VOLLEYBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK: SAVANNAH BLINN, GONZAGA, REDSHIRT SOPHOMORE, OUTSIDE HITTER
Redshirt sophomore outside hitter Savannah Blinn had a monster offensive weekend for the Bulldogs. In the two Gonzaga victories, Blinn had a combined total of 39 kills at a .477 clip. Against Santa Clara, Blinn posted 16 kills on 26 swings (.423) and against San Francisco had 23 on 39 attacks. In the match against the Dons, Blinn tallied six kills on eight swings, including the game winner, in the match-clinching fifth set. Her kill totals were player highs in both matches.
Her strong performances ushered the Zags to another historic weekend. Winning the season series over SCU and USF marks the first time GU has swept the season set against two WCC opponents since 2001 (San Francisco and Portland). Gonzaga has not swept SCU since 1990 and not swept USF since 2001. At 10 overall wins, the Bulldogs tie a team-best during the Dave Gantt era (won 10 matches in 2009) and the six WCC wins sets a new Gantt era best (previous best was five in 2009). The last time Gonzaga won six WCC matches dates back to the 1996 season under head coach Sean Madden.
Also nominated: Kathryn LeCheminant, BYU; Katie Hoekman, USD; Anja Segota, USF
