MALIBU, Calif. - Pepperdine freshman outside hitter Rachel Lumsden was named West Coast Conference (WCC) volleyball Player of the Week Monday for her efforts in leading the Waves to a pair of home victories over No. 20 Santa Clara and No. 15 San Diego announced by the league office.
Lumsden (Brea, Calif.) recorded a team-high 15 kills on .333 hitting and added 13 digs for her eighth double-double of the season in leading Pepperdine in a sweep over Santa Clara on Thursday. The 6-foot-3 Lumsden followed that effort up with a 12-kill, 13-dig performance in a 3-1 victory over San Diego as the Waves snapped the Toreros' 10-match win streak.
This marks the first weekly honor for the freshman and second this season a Pepperdine athlete has received the conference's top weekly honor as sophomore Cassi Chamberlain was honored on October 16.
The Waves carry a four-match win streak into this weekend's action at Saint Mary's and San Francisco.
