SAN BRUNO, Calif. --- One week remains in West Coast Conference play with the conference crown still up for grabs. Depending on what occurs in Thursday's WCC matches, the title may come down to a showdown between first place Pepperdine and second place San Diego on Saturday.

  • One week remains in West Coast Conference action. If Pepperdine solidifies a win on Thursday, the Waves will capture the 2011 WCC title. If Pepperdine drops its match against San Francisco, second place San Diego will have a shot to share the conference crown with the Waves if the Toreros defeat the Waves in a showdown on Saturday afternoon.

  • With the Waves on the verge of clinching the WCC Championship last Thursday, the Gaels swept Pepperdine 3-0 (25-21, 25-22, 25-22) at McKeon Pavilion. With the win, the Gaels have now taken six of the last seven matches against the Waves, extended their winning streak to a season-best five matches and have three wins over top-25 opponents.

  • San Diego won its fourth consecutive match with a 3-1 win over LMU on Saturday afternoon to hold steady at second place in the WCC standings. Junior outside hitter Carrie Baird led the San Diego attack with 13 kills on 32 attacks for a .250 hitting percentage while adding 11 digs for a double-double.

  • Bay Area rivals San Francisco and Santa Clara both picked up two wins apiece with victories of Northwest conference opponents Portland and Gonzaga. The Dons moved up into fifth with a 7-8 WCC record (15-12 overall), while the Broncos improved to seventh (6-8 WCC/11-14 overall).
