SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Santa Clara University posted a dominating conference season and finished atop the West Coast Conference standings for the fifth time since 1977 and third time under head coach Jon Wallace. The Broncos were rewarded for their hard work in the yearly All-WCC awards, taking home three of the four top honors. Senior setter Crystal Matich was selected as the WCC Player of the Year, while freshman outside hitter Krista Kelley garnered Co-WCC Freshman of the Year honors along with outside hitter, Megan York of Saint Mary's. Both York and Kelley were named to the All-WCC First and Freshman Teams. Sophomore libero Haley Carroll of San Francisco was named Defensive Player of the Year after being named to the 2006 All-WCC Freshman Team. Santa Clara Head Coach Jon Wallace was chosen as Coach of the Year by his peers.

Matich is just the fourth Bronco to be named Player of the Year, and the first since teammate Cassie Perret in 2005. Matich was a key player in Santa Clara's offense and led the Broncos and the WCC in assists, averaging 13.24 per game. Kelley is the first Bronco to be named Freshman of the Year since teammate Brittany Lowe also in 2005. Kelley led Santa Clara in kills, averaging 4.47 per game. York is the first Gael ever to be named Freshman of the Year, averaging 4.51 kills per game and has been nationally ranked throughout the season. USF's Carroll set a new record for underclassmen at San Francisco, collecting 1,044 digs in her first two seasons with the Dons. The Coach of the Year recognition marks the third time Jon Wallace has received the honor.
