West Coast Conference Announces Volleyball Postseason Award Winners, All-WCC Teams

Nov. 23, 2011

SAN BRUNO, Calif. --- The Pepperdine women's volleyball team won its 11th West Coast Conference title in program history after going 15-1 in WCC contests. The Waves now await their fate in NCAA postseason play, which will be announced at the NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Selection Show on Sunday, November 27 at 3:00 PM PT on ESPNU.

Much of the Waves' success this season can be attributed to 2011 West Coast Conference Player of the Year Kim Hill, who was selected as the top postseason award winner by the coaches of the WCC. Hill led the conference in kills during conference contests with 235 total and was named the WCC Player of the Week four times this season, the most of any Wave in program history. Hill also played a significant role in clinching the conference crown by averaging 4.29 kills/set and 3.86 digs/set to lead the Waves to victories over San Francisco and No. 20 San Diego.

Loyola Marymount's sophomore libero Betsi Metter garnered 2011 WCC Defensive Player of the Year. Metter topped the WCC charts in digs this season with a 4.92 digs/set average and 526 digs overall. Metter also earned WCC Player of the Week honors on October 31, 2011 after helping to lead her team to two victories against Northwest conference opponents Portland and Gonzaga by collecting 56 digs over the course of the two matches (7.00 digs/set).

Pepperdine middle blocker Samantha Cash was named the 2011 WCC Freshman of the Year. After helping the Waves finish off the regular season with a non-conference win over Air Force, the freshman capped off her debut campaign as the only newcomer in the conference to land in the WCC's Top 10 in hitting percentage (fourth with a .343 clip) and placed second in blocks with 132.

Conference volleyball coaches selected Pepperdine head coach Nina Matthies as the 2011 WCC Coach of the Year, making it Coach Matthies' 10th conference honor of her career. Coach Matthies led her Waves to the conference crown with an impressive 15-1 record, going undefeated through 13 games to start WCC play.
