SAN BRUNO, Calif. --- 2011 West Coast Conference Champion Pepperdine and second place finisher San Diego earned spots in the NCAA Division I Volleyball Championships. Pepperdine earned the No. 15 seed and will host Missouri State on Thursday, December 1 at 7:30 PM PT, while San Diego will take on Long Beach State at UCLA's John Wooden Center on Friday, December 2 at 5:30 PM PT. This is Pepperdine's 21st appearance in the NCAA Tournament and San Diego's 15th.
Pepperdine earned the conference crown after going 15-1 in WCC play and 22-6 overall. The Waves boast a deep roster, led by six All-WCC selections, including WCC Player of the Year Kim Hill and WCC Freshman of the Year Samantha Cash, that have helped the Waves earn four wins over ranked opponents this season (including then-No. 7 UCLA) and five versus teams who played in the 2010 NCAA Tournament. The Waves are currently ranked 16th in the nation in kills per set.
San Diego finished the year with a 27-4 overall, its best season in program history, and 12-4 in conference contests. The Toreros are currently ranked 24th in the nation in kills per set and 10th in assists per set and also features a deep roster with 2010 WCC Freshman of the Year Chloe Ferrari and multiple USD standouts that are ranked within the top-20 NCAA leaders with Katie Hoekman at No. 8 in hitting percentage (.406 clip), followed by Ferrari at No. 12 (.396). Amber Tatsch stands at No. 14 in service aces (0.49 service ace-per-set average and 49 total aces). Two USD players were named to the 2011 All-WCC First Team (two additional to All-WCC Honorable Mention) and one to the All-WCC Freshman Team.
