No. 17 San Diego to Face No. 25 Duke in Second Round of the NCAA Tournament

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The University of San Diego women's volleyball team will face the Duke University Blue Devils in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday at 2 p.m.

USD advanced to the second round after defeating the Gamecocks of Jacksonville State University by a 3-0 score. In this match, Laurel Abrahamson, Christie Dawson and Kristen Carlson all recorded double-digit kills to help lead the 17th-ranked Toreros to victory.

Duke earned their second round berth by defeating the host Lady Vols of the University of Tennessee, 3-2, in the second match of the day. The 25th-ranked Blue Devils enter Saturday's match with an overall record of 29-3. This will be the inaugural match between the two programs in the sports of volleyball.

The winner of this match will advance on to the Sweet 16 in Gainesville, Fla. next weekend. Should the Toreros advance, it will be their second trip to the Sweet 16 in the past three seasons and will match the furthest any USD team has gone in the NCAA Tournament.
