Volleyball Moves Up to No. 14 in Latest Rankings

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Fresh off a pair of wins in the NCAA Tournament, the University of San Diego women's volleyball team has moved up three sports to No. 14 in the latest CSTV/AVCA top-25 poll. This marks the 11th consecutive week the Toreros have appeared in the top-25 and is also the highest USD has been ranked this season.

USD notched a 3-0 first-round win over Jacksonville State University this past Friday, then followed with a thrilling 3-2 win over No. 25 Duke University on Saturday to advance to the Sweet 16 for the second time in the past three years.

The Toreros are set to begin play in the next round of the NCAA Tournament against top-ranked Nebraska. This will be the second meeting of the season between the two with the Huskers claiming a 3-0 win on Aug. 29. Nebraska enters the contest with a 29-1 overall record with their only loss coming against Colorado in Colorado.

The two other teams in this bracket are the host and seventh-ranked University o Florida and the ninth-ranked University of Minnesota. Florida joins Texas as one of two teams that hosted the first and second rounds and will host the NCAA Regionals as well. The Gators defeated Florida A&M in three games on Nov. 30, and claimed a four-game victory over Arizona State on Dec. 1 to advance to the regional round.

The Minnesota volleyball team (25-7) will head to its sixth regional in the last eight years, as it faces No. 7 Florida (30-2) on Friday, Dec. 8 at 6 p.m. (CT). Minnesota defeated Siena and Saint John's in the first two rounds to advance to the Sweet 16.

USD and Nebraska will begin action on Friday as the match is set to begin at 1:30 p.m. (PST). Should USD defeat the Huskers, they will face the winner of the Florida and Minnesota match on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. This match will be live on ESPNU.
