SAN BRUNO, Calif. - The University of San Diego's senior middle hitter Christie Dawson was named the West Coast Conference Player of the Month, it was announced Wednesday.
Dawson helped lead the Toreros to the 2006 West Coast Conference championship in November, leading the team to a 5-1 record for the month. Dawson averaged, 4.45 kills per game, while hitting a conference leading .486 clip in November, helping San Diego earn wins over, then-No. 22, Santa Clara, Loyola Marymount, Gonzaga, Portland and Cal State Fullerton. Against the Broncos, Dawson posted 17 kills on just one error hitting .571 for the match. She topped that performance with 22 kills and just one error in the win over Gonzaga, posting a .606 attacking percentage. Dawson took home the WCC Player of the Week award for the week of Nov. 14 and capped the month with an All-WCC first-team selection.
Dawson and the 14th-ranked Toreros are back in action in the Sweet 16 round of the NCAA tournament this Friday as they take on the top-ranked Cornhuskers of the University of Nebraska in Gainesville, Fla. The Match is set for a 1:30 p.m. start and will be web streamed live on the USD athletic department website.
