SAN BRUNO, Calif. --- The American Volleyball Coaches Associated (AVCA) has named University of San Diego senior middle hitter Chloe Ferrari a 2013 Division I Second-Team All-American, while BYU sophomore outside hitter Alexa Gray garnered 2013 Division I Third-Team All-American honors. Taking home All-American honorable mention accolades are junior opposite Alaysia Brown (San Diego), senior outside hitter Kristina Graven (Saint Mary's), senior libero C'era Oliveira (San Diego), senior outside hitter Jordan Shaw (Saint Mary's), and sophomore setter Becca Strehlow (Pepperdine).
Ferrari, the 2013 WCC Player of the Year, came back strong in 2013 after suffering a season-ending injury in 2012 to tally a team-leading 337 kills with an impressive .444 hitting percentage, as well as 100 blocks and 86 digs. Ferrari was named the WCC Player of the month for both September and October, as she helped guide USD to a program-best 26-4 overall record on the season. Ferrari was also tabbed WCC Player of the Week three times this season and was selected to the All-Regional team in Lincoln, Neb. after helping lead USD into the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament.
Ferrari completes her Torero career with the best career hitting percentage in program history at .401, and her .444 hitting percentage in 2013 is a new single-season record. Ferrari also capped her impressive Torero career with 329 career blocks, placing her seventh all-time, and 1,228 career kills, placing her 10th all-time in that category.
Gray, a native of Calgary, Alberta, led the Cougars to a 24-7 season record and a second-consecutive trip to the regional semifinals of the NCAA Tournament. During the season Gray totaled 477 kills (3.98 per set) while hitting a .305 clip, and adding 83 blocks and 86 digs. Gray was earlier named All-Pacific South Region First Team, All-WCC First Team and a WCC Player of the Week in September. She was also added to the NCAA Los Angeles Region All-Tournament Team and Hampton Inn Invitational All-Tournament Team. In 2012, Gray received All-America Honorable Mention accolades.
