Thomas Olsen Named Men's Soccer Player of the Week

SAN BRUNO, Calif. – University of San Diego's Thomas Olsen has earned the West Coast Conference's first player of the week award for the 2015 men's soccer season, it was announced by the league office on Monday for the week of August 31, 2015. 

Olsen a sophomore goalkeeper, was credited with a shutout in the Toreros' season opener  3-0 home win over No. 16 California at Torero Stadium.

San Diego finished with 16 shots, netting six on frame, while Cal had 13 shots with four coming on goal. The Golden Bear’s held an 11-2 advantage in corner kicks, but couldn’t convert.

Last year's WCC Freshman of the Year and recently tabbed WCC and All-American by Top Drawer Soccer preseason honoree had four saves of which two of them were diving stops.  Meanwhile, during the 2014 campaign, the Las Vegas, Nev., native recorded 43 saves, posted a 10-6-4 ledger, and registered six shutouts.  This is his first career weekly award and the first for an USD standout since Connor Brandt was named WCC Player of the Week last season on Nov. 10.
