WCC Places Multiple Teams in Preseason National Polls

USTFCCCA National Coaches' Poll I USTFCCCA Regional Rankings: Men I USTFCCCA Regional Rankings: Women

SAN BRUNO, Calif. – West Coast Conference programs were well-represented in the 2016 USTFCAA National Coaches Preseason Poll released this week. Four programs achieved national top-30 rankings (two men), while 10 programs earned top-15 regional ratings. 

Defending WCC men’s champion BYU was tabbed for a share of 13th place in the national poll, while traditional powerhouse Portland was ranked No. 23. On the women’s side, San Francisco was the top vote-getter at No. 20 followed by 2015 WCC co-champion No. 27 BYU. The Pilots were listed in the receiving votes category. 

No fewer than six institutions earned top-15 preseason regional rankings. BYU was ranked No. 4 in the Mountain Region in both the men’s and women’s poll. Portland (5/6), San Francisco (9/5) and Gonzaga (13/8) placed both men’s and women’s teams on the West Region list. Saint Mary’s was No. 15 in the men’s poll, while Loyola Marymount checked in at No. 15 in the women’s rankings. 

The 2016 WCC Cross Country Championships are set for Friday, October 28 at the Tecolote Shores Park in San Diego. The Women’s 6K race is set for a 10:00 a.m. start, followed by the men’s 8K race at 11:00 a.m.
