WEST COAST CONFERENCE BASKETBALL HIGHLIGHTS

  • In the latest Lunardi ESPN Bracketology, Saint Mary’s and Gonzaga are both listed as No. 8 seeds. (As of 2/8/16.)
  • The West Coast Conference is up to 11th in conference RPI according to the latest KenPom rankings (2/8/16) behind the Mountain West (10) and in front of the Missouri Valley (12th).
  • According to current KenPom rankings, the West Coast Conference ranks second nationally in efficiency (107.3), fourth in free throw percentage (72.1) and eighth in 3-point field goal percentage (36.0). 
  • Saint Mary’s ranks in the top-three among Division I leaders in multiple team offensive categories: field goal percentage (1st/51.4%) and assist/turnover (1st/1.87), third in both 3-point field goal percentage (42.4%) and second in scoring margin (17.1). 
  • The Gaels rank second nationally among Division I defensive leaders in scoring defense (59.3%).

WEST COAST CONFERENCE BASKETBALL QUICK HITS

  • Gonzaga senior forward Kyle Wiltjer was named Preseason National Player of the Year by CBSSports.com. 
  • BYU’s Kyle Collinsworth is a finalist for the Bob Cousy Award  (top point guard), while Gonzaga’s Kyle Wiltjer is on the midseason  list for the Oscar Robertson Award (National Player of the Year).
  • Gonzaga’s Kyle Wiltjer* ranks 20th among active career Division I scoring leaders (1,696). Pepperdine senior forward Stacy Davis ranks 22nd among (22nd/1,668 points), Santa Clara’s Jared Brownridge (34th/1,554) and BYU’s Kyle Collinsworth (43rd/1,513) also crack the top-45.
  • BYU senior guard Kyle Collinsworth ranks eighth nationally among active career rebound leaders (944), while Pepperdine’s Davis is 12th (906).
  • Two WCC student-athletes rank in the top-30 among active career assists leaders. BYU senior guard Kyle Collinsworth ranks sixth nationally (611). Portland junior Alec Wintering is 24th (452). 
  • San Diego senior center Jito Kok ranks sixth among active career Division I blocked shots leaders (254). 
  • BYU senior guard Chase Fischer ranks fifth among active career Division I 3-pointer leaders (182/3.08), while Santa Clara junior guard Jared Brownridge is sixth (257/2.89).  Portland’s Alec Wintering is 17th in 3-point accuracy (42.9%) and teammate D’Marques Tyson is 21st (42.6%). Gonzaga senior Kyle Wiltjer is 25th (42.4%), while Brownridge is 32nd (42.1%).
  • Gonzaga ranks second nationally in defensive rebounds (30.21),13th in field goal percentage (48.9), 19th in field goal percentage defense (39.0), 11th in scoring margin (14.4) and 17th in rebound margin (8.7).
