WEST COAST CONFERENCE BASKETBALL HIGHLIGHTS

  • In the latest Lunardi ESPN Bracketology, Saint Mary’s is a No. 9 seed and Gonzaga is a No. 10. (As of 2/1/16.)
  • The West Coast Conference is up to 11th in conference RPI according to the latest KenPom rankings (2/1/16) behind the Mountain West (10) and in front of the Missouri Valley (12th).
  • According to current KenPom rankings, the West Coast Conference ranks second nationally in efficiency (108.3), fourth in 3-point field goal percentage (36.7) and free throw percentage (72.5). 
  • The West Coast Conference ranks sixth nationally in conference 3-point field goal percentage (35.84). 
  • Saint Mary’s ranks in the top-three among Division I leaders in multiple team offensive categories: field goal percentage (1st/53.2%) and assist/turnover (1st/1.94), second in both 3-point field goal percentage (43.6%) and scoring margin (18.5).

WEST COAST CONFERENCE BASKETBALL QUICK HITS

  • Gonzaga senior forward Kyle Wiltjer was named Preseason National Player of the Year by CBSSports.com. 
  • BYU’s Kyle Collinsworth is a finalist for the Bob Cousy Award  (top point guard), while Gonzaga’s Kyle Wiltjer is on the midseason  list for the Oscar Robertson Award (National Player of the Year).
  • Gonzaga’s Kyle Wiltjer* ranks 20th among active career Division I scoring leaders (1,656). Pepperdine senior forward Stacy Davis ranks 22nd among (23rd/1,615 points), Santa Clara’s Jared Brownridge (32nd/1,536) and BYU’s Kyle Collinsworth (40th/1,487) also crack the top-40.
  • BYU senior guard Kyle Collinsworth ranks eighth nationally among active career rebound leaders (923), while Pepperdine’s Davis is 12th (886).
  • Two WCC student-athletes rank in the top-30 among active career assists leaders. BYU senior guard Kyle Collinsworth ranks sixth nationally (600). Portland junior Alec Wintering is 25th (439). 
  • San Diego senior center Jito Kok ranks seventh among active career Division I blocked shots leaders (247). 
  • BYU senior guard Chase Fischer ranks fourth among active career Division I 3-pointer leaders (175/3.07), while Santa Clara junior guard Jared Brownridge is sixth (257/2.92). Gonzaga senior Kyle Wiltjer is 21st in 3-point accuracy (42.2%), while Brownridge is 22nd (42.5%). Portland’s Alec Wintering is 31st (41.9%) and teammate D’Marques Tyson is 45th (41.4%).
  • Gonzaga leads the nation in defensive rebounds (30.73) is 16th in field goal percentage (48.7), 18th in field goal percentage defense (38.8), 11th in scoring margin (14.3) and 17th in rebound margin (9.1).

SAN BRUNO, Calif. — The 2016 West Coast Conference Men’s Basketball Championship bracket has been revised to a nine-team format. The WCC membership reconfigured its men’s basketball tournament bracket due to University of the Pacific’s withdrawal from the 2016 conference championship. The complete 2016 men’s tournament bracket is attached.
