WEST COAST CONFERENCE BASKETBALL QUICK HITS

  • In the latest Lunardi ESPN Bracketology, Saint Mary’s is a No. 8 seed and Gonzaga is a No. 7. (As of 1/18/16.)
  • Gonzaga senior forward Kyle Wiltjer was named Preseason National Player of the Year by CBSSports.com. 
  • Three WCC student-athletes cracked 2015-16 preseason major individual awards watch lists. BYU’s Kyle Collinsworth is on the Bob Cousy Award list (top point guard), Gonzaga’s Przemek Karnowski is on the Kareem Abdul-Jabaar Award list (top center) and Gonzaga’s Kyle Wiltjer is on the Karl Malone Award list (top power forward).
  • Gonzaga’s Kyle Wiltjer* ranks 22nd among active career Division I scoring leaders (1,577). Pepperdine senior forward Stacy Davis ranks 23rd among (23rd/1,554 points), Santa Clara’s Jared Brownridge (34th/1,463) and BYU’s Kyle Collinsworth (41st/1,424) also crack the top-45.
  • BYU senior guard Kyle Collinsworth ranks eighth nationally among active career rebound leaders (894), while Pepperdine’s Davis is 12th (852).
  • Two WCC student-athletes rank in the top-25 among active career assists leaders. BYU senior guard Kyle Collinsworth ranks sixth nationally (564). Portland junior Alec Wintering is 26th (421). 
  • San Diego senior center Jito Kok ranks seventh among active career Division I blocked shots leaders (238). 
  • BYU senior guard Chase Fischer ranks fourth among active career Division I 3-pointer leaders (162/3.06), while Santa Clara junior guard Jared Brownridge is sixth (245/2.88). Gonzaga senior Kyle Wiltjer is 23rd in 3-point accuracy (41.9%), while Brownridge is 28th (42.2%) and Portland senior Bryce Pressley is 28th (41.4%). 

*Wiltjer’s NCAA career tally includes two seasons at Kentucky (535 points)

WEST COAST CONFERENCE BASKETBALL HIGHLIGHTS

  • The West Coast Conference rates 11th in conference RPI according to the latest KenPom rankings.
  • Accoring to current KenPom rankings, the West Coast Conference ranks second nationally in efficiency (109.3), second in free throw percentage (73.9) and fourth in 3-point field goal percentage (37.3). 
  • The West Coast Conference ranks sixth nationally in conference 3-point field goal percentage (35.87). 
  • The West Coast Conference owns a non-conference record of 63-49 (.563). See complete conference breakdown on page two.
  • Saint Mary’s leads Division I in multiple team offensive categories: field goal percentage (1st/53.4%) and assist/turnover (1st/2.01). SMC is also fourth in 3-point field goal percentage (44.7%) and in assists per game (19.2) and second in scoring margin (20.5). 
  • Portland ranks eighth in 3-pointers (189) and 3-point attempts (511). Saint Mary’s ranks 18th in rebound margin (9.1), third in scoring defense (58.0) and 20th in field goal defense (38.8%).
