WEST COAST CONFERENCE BASKETBALL QUICK HITS

  • Junior guard Alec Wintering of Portland was named WCC Player of the Week. RELEASE

  • The West Coast Conference owns an overall non-conference record of 62-49 (55.9%). For a complete breakdown, please see page two. 
  • The West Coast Conference finished non-conference play with a flourish, posting a 15-4 slate (78.9%) from Dec. 14-28. 
  • The West Coast Conference shares fourth place nationally in conference 3-point field goal percentage (36.08). 
  • Saint Mary’s offense is running efficiently during the non-conference. The Gaels rank in the top-five in several national team offensive categories: field goal percentage (1st/53.8%), 3-point field goal percentage (3rd/45.2%), 3-pointers (1st/10.6), assist/turnover (1st/2.02) and assists per game (5th/20.2).
  • Portland ranks sixth in 3-pointers (119) and 11th in 3-point attempts (310). Saint Mary’s ranks 13th in rebound margin (10.9), third in scoring defense (57.4) and 23rd in field goal defense (38.0%). 
  • Gonzaga senior forward Kyle Wiltjer was named Preseason National Player of the Year by CBSSports.com. 
  • Three WCC student-athletes cracked 2015-16 preseason major individual awards watch lists. BYU’s Kyle Collinsworth is on the Bob Cousy Award list (top point guard), Gonzaga’s Przemek Karnowski is on the Kareem Abdul-Jabaar Award list (top center) and Gonzaga’s Kyle Wiltjer is on the Karl Malone Award list (top power forward).
  • Pepperdine senior forward Stacy Davis ranks 22nd among active career Division I scoring leaders (1,489 points). Gonzaga’s Kyle Wiltjer* (26th/1,435), Santa Clara’s Jared Brownridge (36th/1,354) and BYU’s Kyle Collinsworth (40th/1,330) also crack the top-40.
  • BYU senior guard Kyle Collinsworth ranks eighth nationally among active career rebound leaders (853), while Pepperdine’s Davis is 12th (806).
  • Two WCC student-athletes rank in the top-25 among active career assists leaders. BYU senior guard Kyle Collinsworth ranks sixth nationally (524). Portland junior Alec Wintering is 25th (397). 
  • San Diego senior center Jito Kok ranks eighth among active career Division I blocked shots leaders (226). 
  • BYU senior guard Chase Fischer ranks fourth among active career Division I 3-pointer leaders (143/3.04), while Santa Clara junior guard Jared Brownridge is sixth (228/2.89). Portland senior Bryce Pressley ranks 11th among active career leaders in 3-point accuracy (43.2%), Brownridge is 19th (42.3) and Gonzaga senior Kyle Wiltjer is 29th (41.7).
