WEST COAST CONFERENCE BASKETBALL QUICK HITS

  • The West Coast Conference finished non-conference play with a flourish, posting a 15-4 slate (78.9%) from Dec. 14-28. 
  • The West Coast Conference rates 11th in conference RPI according to the latest KenPom rankings.

  • The West Coast Conference ranks third nationally in conference 3-point field goal percentage (36.19). 
  • Saint Mary’s leads Division I in multiple team offensive categories: field goal percentage (1st/54.3%), 3-point field goal percentage (1st/46.0%) and assist/turnover (1st/2.04). SMC is also fifth in assists per game (20.1) and scoring margin (22.2).
  • Portland ranks sixth in 3-pointers (119) and fourth in 3-point attempts (445). Saint Mary’s ranks 15th in rebound margin (10.4), fourth in scoring defense (57.8) and 29th in field goal defense (38.0%). 
  • In the latest Lunardi ESPN Bracketology, No. 22 Gonzaga is a No. 8 seed; Saint Mary’s is a No. 10. BYU is one of the first four out.

WEST COAST CONFERENCE BASKETBALL HIGHLIGHTS

  • Gonzaga senior forward Kyle Wiltjer was named Preseason National Player of the Year by CBSSports.com. 
  • Three WCC student-athletes cracked 2015-16 preseason major individual awards watch lists. BYU’s Kyle Collinsworth is on the Bob Cousy Award list (top point guard), Gonzaga’s Przemek Karnowski is on the Kareem Abdul-Jabaar Award list (top center) and Gonzaga’s Kyle Wiltjer is on the Karl Malone Award list (top power forward).
  • Pepperdine senior forward Stacy Davis ranks 23rd among active career Division I scoring leaders (1,500 points). Gonzaga’s Kyle Wiltjer* (25th/1,485), Santa Clara’s Jared Brownridge (33rd/1,403) and BYU’s Kyle Collinsworth (39th/1,360) also crack the top-40.
  • BYU senior guard Kyle Collinsworth ranks eighth nationally among active career rebound leaders (864), while Pepperdine’s Davis is 12th (821).
  • Two WCC student-athletes rank in the top-30 among active career assists leaders. BYU senior guard Kyle Collinsworth ranks sixth nationally (538). Portland junior Alec Wintering is 26th (407). 
  • San Diego senior center Jito Kok ranks seventh among active career Division I blocked shots leaders (230). 
  • BYU senior guard Chase Fischer ranks fourth among active career Division I 3-pointer leaders (151/3.08), while Santa Clara junior guard Jared Brownridge is sixth (236/2.91). Brownridge is 17th (42.4) among active career leaders in 3-point accuracy (43.2%), Portland senior Bryce Pressley is 22nd (42.2%) and Gonzaga senior Kyle Wiltjer is 37th (41.4%).

*Wiltjer’s NCAA career tally includes two seasons at Kentucky (535 points) All NCAA Stats as of 1/3/16
